How a Yoga Challenge Changed A Life

Princeton Yoga friend Jeannine shared with us the story of how a yoga challenge changed her life.

Jeannine Dietz

I came to yoga from injury: suffering from two accidents that left me with two herniated discs in my neck and massive soft tissue damage in her shoulders, I suffered from chronic pain, migraines, depression, and couldn’t exercise. After some persuading from my persistent roommate, I decided the time was right to give yoga a shot.

My very first class – a Bikram Hot Yoga class – left me wanting to puke, pass out and die -and in that order. But after the class, I felt great. Realizing that yoga could really help me feel better, I continued.

I admit that for the first year and a half, my practice was rather sporadic. I couldn’t commit to a frequent practice and had many excuses why I couldn’t—too busy, too tired, too lazy, etc. What finally changed my practice was a Yoga Challenge. The incentive: change your life (and receive some free classes as a bonus).

It was difficult, and it took a lot of commitment and discipline, but I did it. In those two months my body opened more than it had in a year and a half of sporadic yoga, my neck felt great, I was calmer and less stressed, and I felt good about myself and my life for the first time in a long time. The way I saw it was: yoga made me feel good and I could feel good every day if I just did yoga, so I did and have never stopped.

Nowadays, 15 years later, I am a Yoga Teacher who has taught full-time for the past 10 years, I do part-time administrative work at Princeton Yoga, am an Energetic and Sound Healer and teach workshops about Chanting and Meditation (who would have thought?!). Yoga has helped me heal not only physically, but mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well. I invite you to try Princeton Yoga’s Yoga Challenge, it can change your life as well.

We invite you to come to 40 classes within 60 days. If you do, you’ll receive a month of unlimited yoga free! You can sign up any time through October 13.
