  1. Judith Hanson Lasater: Living Your Yoga

    Princeton Yoga is honored to host Judith Hanson Lasater. Judith truly practices and sees yoga as a fundamental act of kindness toward oneself. This idea is only too often forgotten, but not by Judith, whose approach is warm, non-judgmental and responsive to individual differences and needs. These workshops promise to take you on a yoga journey to yourself, with the gentle guidance of Judith and her love and dedication to yoga as a whole.

    Judith Hanson Lasater has taught yoga since 1971. She holds a doctorate in East-West psychology and is a physical therapist. She has trained students and teachers in almost every state of the Union and abroad, is one of the founders of Yoga Journal magazine and is the President Emeritus of the California Yoga Teachers Association. She has written six books, including A Year of Living Your Yoga (2006).

    Living Your Yoga: The Active Practice

    This workshop begins with a brief discussion of our practice intention for the day, based on a verse from Patanjali’’s Yoga Sutra. Immediately afterward we will begin an Active Practice exploring the intelligent movement of asana in such poses as standing poses, backbends, forward bends, twists and inversions.

    This Quiet Practice with Judith Hanson Lasater will explore Restorative yoga, pranayama and meditation.

    In this workshop you will explore sacred space and discover how the labyrinth taps into the creative side of the brain. We will discuss the history of the labyrinth and how it is seen in cultures around the globe, learn to draw basic labyrinth patterns and be guided in a group walk.     Founded in 1985 by Catherine Judd, Princeton’s Dance Improv, Live! is a lightly structured evening of self-expression through movement and live music. It is a bare-feet, comfy-clothes, free-movement workshop with live music, which has become not only a Princeton institution but a cutting-edge dance/movement event known nationwide. In so many ways, Dance Improv has shaped and inspired the lives of the thousands of people who have come through its doors during its almost 30 years.

    Dance Improv is a place to move and be moved, a place to play, build community, and form new and lasting friendships. With the help of a light structure and live music, you’ll make contact with yourself and others through fresh and creative motion. It’s meditation, exercise, and healing all rolled into one joyous evening!   10. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

    Jeffrey Rutstein, Psy.D, clinical psychologist and director of the Life Center for Growth and Health, PC and Deborah Metzger, E-500-RYT, LSW, PCYH’s Founder and Director, will teach students the same 8-week series that forms the basis today for the key research studies with meditation.

    Based on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, the program‘s structured educational approach offers mindfulness meditation and gentle yoga as the core of its program to guide people to take better care of themselves and to live healthier and more adaptive lives. People who have participated in MBSR have found help with a range of physiological and stress-related conditions including chronic pain, IBS, migraine headaches, high blood pressure, cancer, sleep disorders, anxiety and depression. MBSR provides training in meditation, mindful-yoga, and relaxation to mobilize your mind/body resources to work with stress, pain, and illness in new ways that can promote growth and healing.

    The program includes eight 2 hour sessions, a one day retreat, a workbook, and practice CDs. Its success requires a strong commitment to daily practice.

  11. Prana Yoga Teacher Training (200 hr)

    Prana is the Sanskrit word for universal energy or “life force,” analogous to the Chinese concept of “chi” or what homeopaths call “vital force.” In the yogic tradition, prana is seen as pervading and animating the universe, flowing through all things, including us. Yogic practices are designed to increase the flow of prana in our bodies and minds to facilitate healing and expand consciousness. Increased pranic flow enhances mental clarity, emotional stability and physical vitality. This training will enable you to become a teacher of yoga at its essence and greatly expand the depth and power of your practice and the healing experiences of your students.

    Jeff Migdow, MD, a holistic physician and Reiki master/ practitioner for over 25 years has been the director of the Prana Yoga Teacher Training program since 1997 and was also the director of Kripalu Yoga teacher Training, certifying over 1,500 yoga teachers. He has taught and studied yoga and healing extensively in North and South America, India and Japan. With his profound expertise in yoga practice and scriptures and his knowledge of anatomy and physiology as well as the contributions of other special guest educators, you will experience and learn a truly complete approach to this ancient and profound discipline.

  12. Erin Motz: Bad Yogi Master Class

    Starting with a brief talk about Erin’’s philosophy and what it means to be a “bad yogi,” (hint: probably not what you’’d expect!) we’’ll dive right in to a 75-minute dynamic flow. Her signature style is creative, playful, and vigorous. In true Bad Yogi fashion, we’ll have rockin’ music where we’ll play with unique transitions and creative variations on sun salutations. You won’’t hear much Sanskrit but you’’ll probably get a few corny jokes, some fun facts about your own body, and sweet, delicious deep stretches. This class has a strong anatomical focus and is sure to challenge the body while maintaining a clear mind and is designed to help you fall in love with Yoga all over again.
