Charles is a nationally recognized group leader and psychotherapist. He is founder and director of “the Heart Group” at Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC which was recently featured in the PBS documentary “The Mysterious Human Heart” for it’s holistic approach to the treatment of people with heart disease and cancer.
Leighton has a private practice in Butler and now at PCYH where he provides counseling for individuals, couples and families dealing with a variety of conditions including anxiety, depression, marital discord, trauma and abuse, and anger management. His integral approach to achieving mental health includes the combining of traditional cognitive and talk therapy with mindfulness meditation, yoga and stress management.
Leighton has been a therapist for such organizations as Gildas Club, The Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease and Smith Farm Center for the Healing Arts and has provided behavioral training for such organizations as the New York Times, Preventive Medicine Institute, Beth Israel Medical Center and the new York public school system.
Mr. Leighton is a graduate of NYU school of social work and did post graduate training at the Jewish board for Children and Family Services. He is a certified yoga teacher with the Integral Yoga Institute and has been practicing Mindfulness Meditation for over twenty five years.
