This course is for aspiring teachers, teachers wanting to further their
studies, and for students relatively new to yoga with a desire to learn
more.
Deepen and clarify your experience of yoga through this intensive study.
Learn how to bring the joy of yoga to others in a clear and safe format.
In this
training you will learn how to hold a creative and open environment in
which students will feel encouraged to explore the mind, body, and spirit.
This course
is a journey through the physical aspects of the practice as well its history
and philosophy.
We will delve into a set vinyasa sequence and study the sun salutations
in order to understand the mechanics and rationale behind a vinyasa’s
structure. Once these basics are internalized you will learn to use them
as tools to creatively
weave together your own new asana sequences.
As well as in-depth physical practice, you will also learn how to understand
the body, its alignment, and how to give assists and adjustments. The subtler
energies of the body will be explored through study of the bandhas, chakras,
and chanting.
Selected readings, lectures, and discussions will enliven the spiritual
aspects of your practice with the richness of yogic history and philosophy.
Meditation
will be practiced during each of our days together, and encouraged through
the sharing of experience and questions during class.
Other topics include: an introduction to pre and post natal yoga, the basics
of Ayurveda, Ethics for yoga teachers, Yamas and Niyamas, business advice
and development, a journey through the Koshas, Anatomy, Karma Yoga (service
in
your community), opportunities for practice teaching during the training…and
much more!
Meet Cheryl Delaney-Villar:
Cheryl Delaney-Villar took her first yoga class at Princeton Center for
Yoga & Health
as a high school student in 1997. Having grown up a gymnast and later a dancer,
the idea of pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses or internalized consciousness)
blew her competitively-trained mind and changed her world.
While studying modern dance and choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University,
Cheryl had the good fortune to take Ashtanga classes with Valerie Jeremijenko,
herself a student of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. With her roots set in Ashtanga,
Cheryl soon ventured out into the exciting world of Vinyasa Flow and began
teaching her first classes in 2001.
After graduating with a BFA in dance from VCU in 2002, Cheryl flowed through
many experiences, always seeking balance through yoga on the waves of life.
Some of her experiences during this time include; working as a modern dancer
in New York City, section-hiking the Appalachian Trail, living on an organic
farm, three weeks with a traveling circus, and then finally settling down
for five years in Buenos Aires.
Now back in New Jersey with her Argentine husband, Facundo, Cheryl is excited
to share the voluminous information she gathered along the way. Her life
experience and undergraduate training is supported by a solid base of certifications
including
a 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training at Dhyana Yoga in Philadelphia,
a personal training certification from the National Association of Sports
Medicine,
and a certificate in Thai Massage obtained in Thailand at the Traditional
Medical School of WatPo.
Free
introductions will be held from1-3 pm Saturday, January 30 and Saturday,
April 3.
